City of DeSoto To Kick Off National Hispanic Month With Second Annual Latino Heritage Festival

The City of DeSoto joins the nation in celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15. During this time, the City honors the history, culture and positive contributions Hispanic and Latino Americans continue to make to influence and strengthen the fabric of our community. To celebrate the month, the DeSoto Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce the date for its Second Annual Latino Heritage Festival on Saturday, September 8, 2018 from
6:00p.m. to 10:00p.m., at the DeSoto Amphitheater located at 211 E. Pleasant Run Rd in DeSoto, TX.

The 2018 Latino Heritage Festival will kick off National Hispanic Heritage Month, which celebrates and recognizes the immeasurable contributions made by Hispanic and Latino Americans. The festival seeks to draw attention to the cultural diversity of DeSoto and surrounding communities, and will feature traditional folkloric dance and musical performances by El Chicano, Havana NRG, DJ Jammin Joe, arts and cultural exhibits, authentic food court, face painting, bounce houses, and plenty of family fun! Attendees are encouraged to wear their favorite Latino heritage fashions. The event is free and open to the public.

“The DeSoto Parks Department is extremely proud to host the 2nd Annual Latino Heritage Festival that seeks to educate and connect communities! Diverse communities are strong communities, rich with people from all walks of life. We hope that this event will continue to flourish and grow throughout the years, “said
M. Renee Johnson, Managing Director for DeSoto Parks and Recreation Department.

“The Latino Heritage Festival is an opportunity for us to celebrate diversity, which is very important to this All America City! The beauty of living in a diverse community such as DeSoto is that we welcome all voices and celebrate all heritages– this festival serves as a platform to do just that! We hope that everyone in the
community will come together to celebrate and experience the nuance and diversity of the Latino culture,” said Mayor Curtistene McCowan.

The DeSoto Parks and Recreation Department is honored to have sponsor support for the 2018 Latino Heritage Festival from Atkinson Toyota, In & Out Burger, Bank of DeSoto, Republic Services, the Desoto Economic Development Corporation, PlainsCapital Bank, and volunteers from Harvest Fellowship Church that are committed to making this event possible.
