An Interview with MJRS: Spreading Positivity Through Style

In this exclusive Q&A, we got to chat with the founders of MJRS (Maintaining Joy while Reaching Success), a Dallas-based clothing brand making waves not only in Texas but also in Oklahoma City and Tulsa. More than just a brand, MJRS embodies a powerful philosophy—a reminder to embrace joy while working hard and chasing success. With a mission to deliver high-quality, affordable apparel and spread positivity within the community, MJRS is redefining what it means to balance ambition with fulfillment. Join us as we dive deeper into the story behind MJRS, the values that drive their journey, and the impact they’re making through their clothing and message.

What was the first piece of clothing you designed for MJRS, and does it hold any special memories?

Our first piece of clothing was our melange tees.  We started off with 2 colors grey and black then eventually expanded to blue as a 3rd color.  This shirt holds a special memory for all of us as it represents the beginning of our journey together to build the MJRS brand.

“Maintaining Joy, Reaching Success” is such a powerful motto! How do each of you personally keep joy in the hustle?

Knowing that our clothing / lifestyle can make someone’s day and find purpose in life. Also just seeing people in the world wearing our merch as a small business keeps the fire going. The small things, like just recently me and Dave attended our HBCU’s homecoming and i ran into some friends who had our gear on. That brought joy to me personally.

If MJRS were a playlist, what songs would have to be on it?

Juls – La Va, Earthgang – Red Flag, Big Sean – Together Forever, LES – Stream of Consciousness, Metro Boomin – Too many nights, Vince staples – Magic, J Cole – dollar and a dream, Curren$y – address

Dallas, OKC, and Tulsa have their own vibes—how does each city inspire or influence your designs?

Trying to incorporate small details of things we might see around the city so it may relate to our customers. Whether it’s a colorway, typography or landmark. Like a pegasus/star in Dallas or night life in Oklahoma. Even to the different finishes we do from fabrics to vinyls to be long lasting in our climates. From the extreme cold to heat!

What are some hidden gems in Dallas or OKC that give you creative inspiration?

Deep Ellum! It’s such a abstract place to pull different energy and pour into the clothing from finishes to colorways. Seeing a bit of what’s trending at the time. Greenwood district (Tulsa) is a great place for inspirationsion due to all of the history and culture. Okc, it’s going to the lake where my mind is just open and free and that gives me room to really just explore ideas.

What’s your go-to piece from the current MJRS collection that you think everyone needs in their wardrobe?

The wavy heavy faded tee, versatile to wear with any fit whether you want a casual look or dress it up!

If MJRS could collaborate with any brand or public figure, who would be at the top of the list?

Wrdlvsn or eTc (brand wise) , Tyler the creator or Curren$y (public figure)

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned from building a brand that’s about more than just profits?
  • Aston – The consistency needed to be established as a successful brand. We all have lives and jobs so finding that schedule of time each day/week will make or break all the progress made.
  • Dave – adding my twist on the answer since I believe it’s asking what’s another way we can measure success other than profits:
  • Steve – One lesson we learned while building up the brand is authenticity. Making sure we stay true to the brand and the values we share without sacrificing or deviating away from what we are truly about just to make sales.  People tend to notice that and it can lead to genuine relationships with customers and build loyalty.  When your brand stands for something people will want to wear your clothing.

In one word, how would each of you describe the MJRS experience for both the team and customers?

Resonance.

Last but not least who was the first person to #COSIGN MJRS that helped the growth of the brand and who do you #COSIGN?

T’aira Smith from formerly known owner from Collection 405. She really put us on the map and given us a shot out of love at OKC Outlets. We #cosign mkblvcreates.
