The Naked Chef will Spice Up the 14th Annual Sister to Sister Fitness Festival

The Celebrating Life Foundation continues its fight against breast cancer.

After over 14 years, this year’s Sister to Sister Fitness Festival will be a health event with a twist, as three premier chefs come together to excite the taste buds of attendees with an appetite for a healthier lifestyle.

“I want to impact millions of people to not only live this healthy lifestyle but to enjoy it,” said Jacques Laventure, known as the Naked Chef from MTV.

Laventure who has been cooking since he was 10 years old, has traveled across the country spreading his healthy message at various fitness expos. His tasty vegetarian delights have been featured everywhere from Go Red Campaigns to special events for his Haitian heritage.

On Saturday, October 3rd, Laventure, Chef Cassondra Armstrong and Chef Rhonda Sweet, will bring their healthy cooking demos to the 14th Sister to Sister Fitness Festival at the Alan E. Sims Cedar Hill Recreation Center, 310 East Parkerville Road, Cedar Hill, Texas.

“This year’s Sister to Sister Fitness Festival is going to be one of the most powerful fitness events to hit the southern sector of Dallas County,” said Sylvia Dunnavant, Founder of the Celebrating Life Foundation.

The Festival will begin with an aerobic workout at 8:00 AM, the 5k walk/run will begin promptly at 8:30 AM. Attendees will moreover have the opportunity to swing dance, line dance or burn calories during a Zumba workout class. The program with be hosted by WFAA’s Shannon Powell of Good Morning Texas.

The Fitness Festival will include over 40 vendor booths providing health-related information including nutrition, body fat analysis, BMI and blood pressure screenings by the Black Nurses Association. Mammograms will also be available for women over the age of 35. For mammogram appointments please call 214-947-0026.

Even the kids will have an opportunity to take part in this year’s festival. Youth activities will include a bounce house, face painting and healthy cooking tips for after school snacks.

The supporters for the Sister to Sister (5k) Fitness Festival include:

Methodist Carlton Medical Center, Atkinson-Toyota, Desoto Arts Commission, A Father’s Table, and VNA.

A portion of the proceeds from this event will go toward the Gail Young Breast Cancer Survivor’s Retreat. This event is named after one of the supporters of the Celebrating Life Foundation, who lost her battle against breast cancer several years ago.

The Celebrating Life Foundation is a non-profit organization devoted to education, empowerment and enrichment for the African American community, women of color and the medically underserviced community about the risks of breast cancer, and the benefits of early detection and treatment.
