Star Music Presents: “The Day I Did A Show With The Game”
Words by: K.G. Graham | @cosignkg

In today’s news The Game might be trending because of a recent diss song he released, but we’re going to talk about the day Dallas artist/hustler Star Music did a show with The Game. Last week at Gas Monkey Live thousands of people were in attendance to witness the Los Angeles rapper murder the stage, but they also witnessed Star Music transcend from local artist to rising star. The music business is more than the records you have, it’s about becoming a brand which Star has created with his new “Star Nation” movement. “I had this idea to capture my biggest show to date. I wanted to basically use this day to show how I really am before shows. From everything that went right and everything that went wrong,” says Star. The “day in the life” video was directed by long time colleague Stack Moses and displays what all the music hustle entails. But this wasn’t his first rodeo, Star has probably opened up for almost 75% of the major hip-hop acts that run through the Dallas market.

When asked how he prepared for the big stage Star answered, “This date was no different. Mentally I was as ready as ever before. I have a routine of nothing but water, tea, and honey lemon cough drops on show days. I’ve lost my voice too many times thinking I was invincible. I started my day having a lunch meeting with Steve Nice from K104. The details of which are mostly confidential. Next, I stopped by to get a hair cut from a close friend, I hit up Centre to find the perfect shoes, then off to the venue to rest and make sure everything was perfect.”

Throughout our interview Star goes on to mention “perfect” a few more times. “Getting to the venue it was packed from the time the doors opened, sound check went perfect, and I was set to open the entire show.” He then goes on to mention that the show was again “perfect’ because his mother, sister, and his closest people that never attended his shows would be supporting him on this major occasion.

Being an opening act is not an easy task at hand. You have majority of people there who wait in line tirelessly to see the main act, but as an opener you have to strategically find a way to gain them as a fan, but also prepare them for the headliner. We were eager to know Stars method. “I wanted to get the crowds reaction from the jump, so I had Saint Ro come out and do an ACCAPELLA freestyle. They instantly were responsive. DJ ESKO89 then dropped the record….I opened up the show with my best… “No Chill”…the rest is history. They were into every song I performed and a lot of people knew my most performed songs (No Chill, 48/14, big bread). When The Game finally came out around 12:15 everyone went crazy considering he hasn’t been to Dallas in over 9 years. Live band and high energy, it was one of the best major artist performances I’ve seen. Major Thanks to Premier Live Experience and Gas Monkey.”
