NAWF EP Release Concert
By: Chris P: Local Celebrity

Friday evening, DFW music scene notables descended on Trees in Deep Ellum for A.Dd+’s EP release party.  The NAWF EP had dropped two Tuesdays prior, and as we’ve become accustomed, new A.Dd+ music means Paris Pershun and Slim Gravy would be performing their new material.

Sam Lao, Kid Cam & Blue, The Misfit each gave solid peformances on the undercard, but the night was A.Dd+’s.

Close friend and regular A.Dd+ collaborator, Mga-Czar, introduced the duo with a short monologue, and A.Dd+ ran out from backstage, Slim in all black with a red N. Dallas ball cap and Paris in black pants, black Chicago Bulls bucket hat, and matching red and white Nike air long sleeve shirt and Nike shoes. The first song from the new project, “Innisho“ (in this hoe), dropped as they entered, and served as appropriate opening declaration of “we’re here” to both the EP and the concert.

Mga-Czar, Tunk and –topic all performed collabo cuts that they and A.Dd+ had done, and at one point, the stage was flooded (in an almost visually chaotic scene), with what was presumably North Dallas rappers (sticking with the “NAWF” theme), some that I did and some that I did not recognize.  Several artists spit, and Mr. Pookie performed a verse from “Crook 4 Life,” and then the show went back to all A.Dd+.

They performed every one of the five songs from the EP, sprinkled throughout the show and between more familiar cuts from past projects.  As the show reached the it’s end, I wondered, “Are they going to switch up the last song because they have new material out, or will it be the usual finale of ‘Genocide?’”  Sure enough, “Genocide” was the last song, and if I’m not mistaken, Slim is usually first into the crowd for this one, but this time Paris hopped off stage first, followed by Blue Tha Misfit, who was on stage at this time, and then by Gravy, as expected.  Rapping, jumping around off stage, and crowd participation to the fullest degree serves/served as the climax for most/this A.Dd+ performance.

While there are other A.Dd+ shows booked between then and now, this, to me, was a great warm up for the A3C Music Festival show in which they’ll be performing, October in Atlanta. NAWF EP is available now on iTunes.
