Who is Black Spadez?

Black Spadez Media is a media company that provides services in the areas in DJing, photography, video, photo booth, MCing/hosting, speaker rental, and more!

What void does your business fill in your current industry?

We provide affordable media services for up and coming social and family events.

Tell us three lessons you’ve learned while operating your business.

1. Double booking yourself is the worst thing in the world. Get a consistent scheduling routine.
2. Never promise a date/time until YOU KNOW you’re free.
3. Set your prices ASAP, it makes doing business 50% easier.

Mentorships are vital, if you could be mentored by anyone in the world who would it be and why?

I’d say Coach K and P (from QC the label in Atlanta) because they are key elements to Atlanta’s music scene, they created a template for the music business that is different and successful. Long story short, they purchased quality studios and gave a lot of artists platforms to blow up. Bc they were able to provide this, a lot of artists respected them as OGs and they were able to keep egos at bay bc they were respected and provided everything.

Tell us one thing majority of people don’t know about you.

I raised my younger brother the majority of time I was in college. He was in middle school, so after studying/working on campus, I’d go to parent teacher conferences, PTA meetings, and football games. Made me grow up a little faster lol

Why do you feel that you should win a COSIGN Award?

I feel like I should win because i genuine love working with people. I love the look they get when I take a nice pic of them, I love being able to come through for ppl when they only hired me for one thing. Ex. I was a DJ at a wedding and their reception photographer couldn’t make it for some reason. I pulled out my camera and took pics for them and they were surprised and VERY grateful.

Who do you #COSIGN and why?

I #COSIGN Jaren Collins (JCI Creatives), Amin Ojuok (The Uhuru Academy), L Mac (Arrogant Images), Sydney Chandler (Baddie Brunch), Erik Grayson (Crownholders Marketing), and Cameron Tendaji (Black Canvas/Black Renaissance).

Jaren because he has so much wisdom on photography and business that he has shared with me. He was the first person to tell me “theres enough money out here for all of us to eat” and he meant it.

L Mac because she was the first person to hire me and connect me with so many black professional events in Dallas and she’s from Houston lol

Amin because he taught me so much about our people, our struggle, and he runs a school for Black children in Ft Worth. Under him, I got a chance to really practice all of my skills and I gained a deeper love for providing services for people who otherwise wouldn’t have been able to afford the service.

Sydney because allowed me to be a part of the Baddie Brunch series and we’ve been able to successfully collaborate on many projects. I admire her so much for everything she’s done, doing, and will do in the future. Plus, we went to UT together.

Erik helped me learn a lot of lessons in business and he’s one of the few promoters who promote things outside of parties. From the walks for autism, cancer marathons, he provides avenues to multiple things in the city and I respect it so much.

Cameron is my bandmate and Black Canvas family. He’s one of the hardest working musicians and leaders I’ve ever worked with. He genuinely cares about Black artistry and shows it in every way.
