Handshakes,  Hugs, The Star and a Swoosh

Wednesday night in Frisco, the Nike store at The Star was the host to an exclusive, invite-only event to introduce the Nike/ Hance Taplin collaboration, the Handshakes & Hugs NFL Draft inspired apparel line. Three shirts in particular, two dedicated to the drafting of former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman in 1989 and one to the drafting of former Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin in 1988, were offered to attendees before they were to be released to the public.

The event was filled with local influencers, promoters, media and people of note and featured food and an open bar. Taplin, the designer of the line, was interviewed live by in-house EKIN (Nike subject matter expert) Rollo, and he explained his inspiration. While not originally from Dallas, he understood the magnitude of “America’s Team,” and he the moments offered to Cowboys Nation by the NFL Draft that were instrumental in the beginning of the football dynasty of the 1990s.

The highlight of the evening was the live interview with Michael Irvin conducted by Rollo. Irvin shared anecdotes of his playing days, his sneaking out of the locker room during one of the Cowboys’ Super Bowl appearances and his time with the NFL. To watch the entire interview, click below.

Overall, it was a great event that allowed COSIGN Magazine to not only get dibbs on new Cowboys / Nike merchandise, but it was an opportunity to both see familiar faces from the scene as well as meet new ones. Events with Nike are always a winner, and we look forward to the next exclusive (or even the not exclusive) function at The Star.
