Morai Elise is a Dallas native artist who began her art career in Houston shortly before COVID shut down the world. She is a multidisciplinary artist who works in mediums such as acrylic, pastels, charcoal, and digital graphics. Morai has always had a passion for creating art that represents her culture and community. Her signature style is creating surreal depictions of both black women and men. While the majority of her career took place in Houston, she is now back home in Dallas to share her art and create new works for local businesses and homes in the city.

I’ve been creating since I was 6 years old. About a year before COVID, I had begun to take my skills publicly after participating in my first art show. At that time, I had predominately abstract art pieces, and decided that I wanted to leave a footprint in my community by creating black art. That catapulted my art career in a positive way, and gave me the opportunity to quit my nine-to-five to do art full time.

What product do you provide?

I provide abstract and cultural art for businesses and homes.

How does this product benefit consumers & differentiate you from others in your market?

My art style is not what you typically come across often. I started out creating traditional realism paintings and evolved my style by merging my love for abstract art and portrait art. My customers get to own one of a kind pieces to add to their businesses or homes. I believe creating black art will continue to be beneficial as we continue to see the growth of representation in the world.

What’s one thing you want the world to know about YOU personally?

I use to struggle with feeling comfortable in my own skin. Once I took the time to work towards complete acceptance of every part of my body, mind, and soul, it allowed me to tap into the vulnerable and sensual parts of myself that actually initiate the start of my creative process. My success became a direct result from my own personal growth of learning how to love every part of who I am.

What made you choose entrepreneurship?

After my health had been compromised from working in management for over a decade, stress began to affect my quality of life. I knew that I didn’t feel fulfilled in that job, and had a feeling that there was a larger purpose I was meant to fulfill. I had been sitting on so many God-given talents, and after my last health scare, I decided to take a leap of faith and bet on myself.

How can consumers reach you and support your business?
