Entrepreneur Lulu Amin says “I’ve been ‘bossy,’ so they say, since I was in kindergarten.” Always independent and creative, she would leave corporate America in 2012 to begin her own entrepreneurial venture. The daughter of an environmental chemist, her family left the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and relocated to Abu Dhabi, U.A.E. when she was 12. She attended high school there and even early on she collected magazines and she says, “I always knew I’d end up in publishing on a subconscious level.”
Lulu looked up to women like Emily Weiss, the founder of the beauty brand Glossier, and she inspired her into the beauty and wellness field. “I have a professional background in marketing and I happened to luckily get one client within the health/wellness industry while I was still working for Hilton corporate. That client led to another until I was able to branch out on my own,” she says. “I’ve always had a sincere passion for skincare/wellness, and this eventually led to my focus on this sector.” From there, she created her publication, DFW Beauty Guide, filling a void in the DFW market for a beauty magazine.
Since beginning DFW Beauty Guide, she has expanded her brand by launching the DFW Beauty Expo this past fall. She had 25 beauty brands partake in the event and over 500 atendees. Between the success of her event and working with some of the most respected beauty brands, she sees this as her greatest accomplishment to date.
In her opinion, a brand becomes a successful brand through consistency, clarity and boldness. And for the entrepreneur that looks up to Lulu, she says, “Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it.”
