Jel was born in Serbia and migrated to Toronto as a kid where she spent most of her childhood. Though she easily caught curiosities in many ideas, artistic things always caught her attention. If something was artsy and eclectic, she jumped on it whether it was school projects, drawing at home, or working on personal projects- she’s been drawing out her feelings ever since she could hold a pencil.
When Jel graduated from college she realized she finished with a degree in something she didn’t want to pursue as a career. She wanted her career to be a reflection of her passion and that’s when she aspired to be a full-time artist. Though Jel is in the embryonic stages of her career, she consciously leans on art into pushing her career further.
When she’s juggling three projects at a time and carrying the responsibility of completion and accuracy, it can get overwhelming but she uses different techniques to alleviate that stress. She emphasizes on stepping away sometimes, breathing, mediating and listening to Andre 3000 for inspiration and creativity.
All her work is reflective of her individual style and stories which creates a unique brand. She feels her art heavily reflects and represents people who are usually overlooked in mainstream media- which has ultimately led to her connecting with other artists/brands. When it’s all said and done, Jel wants to use her work to bring happiness and closure in hopes to help others share their story.
We #COSIGN Jel because she’s helping to close that gap of overlooked artists in mainstream media.
